Ruth K. Barrowman

1942 - 2026

Queensbury - Ruth K. Barrowman, 83, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Fort Hudson Nursing Home with her family by her side.

Born October 6, 1942, in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late William and Lois (Knapp) Kaufmann.

She graduated from Syracuse Central School and continued her education at Syracuse University obtaining her bachelor's degree in speech therapy in 1964.

Ruth Kaufmann met the love of her life Thomas Barrowman in Blue Mountain Lake while at home on summer break. They both were working for their own family's businesses. Ruth was working at her aunt's gift shop and Tom was working at Blue Mountain Lake Boat Livery. They got married on June 4, 1964, in Syracuse.

Ruth enjoyed working with her students as a speech therapist at Warwick Central School and BOCES. She also worked alongside her husband Tom for Lego Education for 15 years and they were responsible for training teachers in kindergarten through college. Ruth and Tom published a book, Science and Math for Technology, for middle school students.

After selling the family marina, Tom and Ruth built their 28ft sailboat. She enjoyed sailing in the summer on Lake Champlain, water skiing, winter skiing, backpacking in White mountains especially Mt. Washington, winter camping in the high peaks, cooking, sewing anything the family needed for outdoor adventures, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her brother-in-law, George Adams.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband of 61 years, Tom Barrowman; son, Kristian T. Barrowman (Judy); daughter, Jemima R. Barrowman; grandchildren, Lief Barrowman and Lukas Barrowman; sister, Martha Adams; brother, William Kaufmann (Liz); along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At the families' request there will be no calling hours or services.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
