Ruth Elaine Petersen Boldt passed peacefully on March 25, 2023. She was surrounded by more than a dozen of her descendants.
Elaine was born in
Manti, Utah on March 3rd, 1937, to Erastus Henry Petersen and Ruth Monk Petersen. She was the youngest of seven children.
Elaine very much enjoyed her childhood – catching water snakes in the ditch, playing with her friends, and singing with her parents. She tells of finding a leather chewing tobacco pouch on the road – and supplementing its contents with dried and shredded horse manure. She asked a farmer passing by on his wagon if it was his. He said, "Why yes, thank you." Wonder how that turned out.
Elaine knew adversity at a young age. She lost two sisters and her father. She experienced the challenges brought on by World War II - rationing, her only parent working sewing parachutes for the army.
After graduating high school, she got a job at the University of Utah Cancer Research Center as a lab technician. Her apartment put her in the ward of a handsome returned missionary "with beautiful hands". She and Egon hit it off and started a life together that led them to Nevada – living in both Reno and Elko. 22 years and seven children later - back to Utah.
Elaine loved serving in the Church. She held a number of leadership positions over the years and especially loved her special primary kids.
Elaine loved the temple: attending, as a temple worker, and teaching temple preparation classes with Egon.
The family would like to give special thanks to her lovely private caregivers along with her hospice workers that cared for her in such a loving way.
And of course, thank you to all her neighbors and friends for their support, friendship, and love over the years.
Elaine is survived by her sister Caroline Johansen; Children Lance (Nancy) Boldt, Camla (Steven) Messick, Gina (Brian) Wilson, Troy Boldt, Nicole (Lamont) Jubeck, Heidi (Jud) Jenkins, Courtney (Emmanuel) Boldt; Grandchildren Jonathan Boldt, Alyshia Boldt, Natalie Cox, Aaron Boldt, Sadie Boldt, Aubrey Bott, Nakita Ellis, Don Messick, Camla Duckett, Jamie Moon, Sara Hockett, Dominique Hocket, Patrick Wilson, Katie Jones, Ashley Antwine, Brooke Boldt, Sabina Boldt, Malerie Boldt, Paige Boldt, Elise Alford, Kray Jubeck, Samantha Manwill, Colton Manwill, Anna Jenkins, Ellie Jenkins; Greatgrandchildren Kenneth Kuhni, Kaleb Kuhni, Kohl Kuhni, Kassia Kuhni, Emmery Cox, Axle Cox, Grace Cox, Otto Cox, Chelsea Bott, Eli Bott, Micah Bott, Levi Bott, Reese Ellis, Ivan Ellis, Porter Ellis, Harvey Ellis, Calvin Ellis, McCall Messick, Chloe Messick, Alayna Messick, Lewis Messick, Millie Duckett, Hendrix Duckett, Halston Duckett, Claire Moon, Alistair Jones, Brently Jones, Corr Antwine, Collyns Antwine.
