Ruth S. Brashaw

Ruth Sophie (Bussan) Brashaw, 97, of Stockton, IL, passed away on June 8, 2025 at Liberty Village in Freeport, IL. She was born on December 9, 1927 in Galena, IL, to parents Clement and Anna Kieffer Bussan. She was a 1945 High School graduate, and a 1948 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing. She married Clifford Burell (Buzz) Brashaw at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Galena, IL on September 23, 1952.
She worked as a Registered Nurse, Farm/Housewife, and operated a mowing business with her husband for 15 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton, IL. Organizations included Alter and Rosary Society at Holy Cross.
Survivors include 3 sons: Tim Brashaw of Olathe, KS, Terry (Sally) Brashaw of Freeport, IL, and Mark (Karen) Brashaw of Tomball, TX; daughters: Jill Heim of Shullsburg, WI, and Patti (Charles) Jackson of Stockton, IL; daughter-in-law Nancy, 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and 1 great grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Burell on June 18, 2000, son Paul in 2016, son-in-law Patrick Heim in 2021, grandchild Neal Brashaw, great-grandchildren Kimmy Brashaw and Mason Lester, brothers: Cyril, Nicholas, Joseph, Clement, Louis, Gregory, and Phillip Bussan; sisters: Eleanor Froschauer, Pauline Dillon, Marian Barzycki, Mercedes Lynch, and Annabelle Schreck. Rosalind and Herbert died in infancy.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 13, 2025 at 11 AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Stockton. Rosary service will be at 8:30 AM, followed by a visitation from 9 AM until time of funeral mass. A memorial has been established in her memory.
