Ruth Buckingham Obituary
Affectionately known as Anna to her loved ones, was called to her eternal home on July 26, 2025, at the age of 62, in the serene surroundings of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Born on September 19, 1962, in Charleston, South Carolina. Anna's life was a testament to the strength and beauty of a spirit grounded in faith and love.
Anna's journey on this earth was marked by her steadfast Christian faith, which guided her through both triumphs and trials. She was loyal in heart and gentle in spirit to all who knew her. As Helen Keller once said, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched they must be felt with the heart." Anna embodied this sentiment, touching the hearts of many with her generosity and loving nature.
She was raised in Beaufort South Carolina and preceded in entering God's Kingdom by parents, Earl and Mildred Freeman, and her brother's Norman, Dwight, and Dennis Freeman. Surviving brother, Wayne Freeman (Brenda), her niece Angela Knieriem (Jake), and their two children, as well as her nephew Eric Freeman (Emily), and their two children.
Anna was reunited with her biological family in 1996. They became very close and all held a special place in her heart, including her mother Linda Pugh, her sister Sherry Pugh Turner (Richard) her brother Bobby Pugh, and nephews Jacob and Tanner Pugh. Also surviving is her partner in business and in life, James (Jim) Buckingham.
A proud graduate of Beaufort Academy's Class of 1980, Anna went on to achieve success as an entrepreneur, her passion for culinary arts and hospitality led her to become the beloved past co-owner of San Miguel's, Sante Fe Café, and Bistro 17. These establishments were more than businesses; they were gathering places where friendships blossomed and community ties deepened.
Anna's compassion extended to all living creatures, with a special love for animals that was evident throughout her life.
She was the epitome of a loving, generous, and faith-filled soul. Anna's legacy is not only found in the businesses she built or the comfort she gave, but in the way she lived her life with grace, and deep devotion to others. She understood the true measure of success is the love we share, the friendships we nurture, and the faith we hold dear.
As we honor the memory of Ruth Ann "Anna" Freeman Buckingham, her spirit will remain in the hearts of those she touched. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, resting in the loving arms of Jesus. May her life inspire us all to live with love, give generously, and walk in faith.
