Ruth Ann Chapman was born on July 14, 1931, on a family farm south of Spencer to Vernon C and Hulda Ruth (Linstrom) Wade. She attended a one room country school, K through 8th grade and graduated from Spencer High School in 1949.
Ruth married Earl D. “Squeeg” Chapman, on October 30, 1949, in Spencer. They made their home in Spencer and Okoboji. To this union, four sons were born, David, Daniel, Samuel and Paul. In 1975, Squeeg and Ruth started Chapman Realty until 1989 at which time they started D & S Garage Doors, where she worked until retiring in 1995. Ruth loved gardening, her yard was beautiful year after year. She also loved entertaining her family and friends.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years in 1997, her son, Dan in 2023; her sister, Jean Berquist in 2004; her nephew, Gail Berquist in 1970 and a niece, Rita in 2016.
Surviving are her three sons: Dave (Meg) of Minneapolis, Sam (Heidi) of Spencer and Paul (Connie) of Milford; five granddaughters: Kate Galloway (Charlie) of Minneapolis, Amanda Mobley (Jason) of Spencer, Emily Axdahl (Chris) of Linn Grove, Liz Klinkenborg (Casey) of Minneapolis and Jennifer Von Ehwegen (Tim) of Spencer; four grandsons: Jacob of LeMars, Charlie of Spencer, Nicholas of Spencer and Adam (Sarah) of LeMars; four step grandsons: Shannon (Paula) of Minneapolis, Matt (Shelby) of Spencer and Nick Origer (Crystal) of Florida; 34 great grandchildren and many friends and relatives.
