Ruth Waldhaus Clark died on June 4, 2023 after a long bout with Alzheimers. She was 93 years old.
Ruth was born on December 8, 1930 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was the only child of Edgar and Blanche Waldhaus. She married her husband, Frank Clark, in February 1950 and they were married for 73 years. Together they had four children: Susan Heuer, Sandie Russo, Frank Clark and Tom Clark.
Ruth and Frank lived in many places over the years; Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey and finally Maine. She worked hard as a mother and home maker and loved her children. She had a particular knack for animals and was known for her willingness to take in any animal in need. At one point, in their home in Connecticut, she had 57 animals - farm, wild, and domestic. Neighbors talked about the skunk who lived in the kitchen cabinet and the chipmunk she carried around in her shirt pocket. She took on an amazing number of orphaned lambs to bottle feed. In later years, she took on a rehomed parrot and some cockatiels. Anything that needed a home. Dogs were always a part of her household, and a little rescued 4 pound Yorkie helped her through her final days at home. She also had an incredible green thumb. Her gardens were gorgeous and she could grow anything.
Ruth was a quiet, introverted hard-working woman whose whole focus was her family. She was a simple, uncomplicated lady known for her sweet, kind and generous nature. She had four grandchildren who were the apples of her eye: Ashley Clark from Maine, and Aaren Ellsworth, Melissa Heuer, and Josh Heuer who all live in Alaska. For twenty years, she and her husband made annual trips to Alaska to spend time with them and hosted summer visits from the kids during summer school breaks. They were all very close despite the long distance. She has four great grandchildren who all live in Alaska. She loved babies and was thrilled to spend time with them when the families travelled to Maine to visit.
Ruth is pre-deceased by her son, Frank Clark, and her husband, Frank Clark Jr.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Hospice. They took excellent care of her.
