Ruth H Dalley

On November 12, 2022, our beloved mother, Ruth Hendricks Dalley passed from mortality to eternal life in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ruth was born to Alton Webb Hendricks and Dora Pickett Hendricks on March 29, 1935 in Logan, Utah. She spent most of her growing up years in Richmond, Utah except for about two years spent in Portland, Oregon during WWII when her father worked as a welder, building ships. After returning to Richmond, she graduated from North Cache High School, where she participated in theatre, which she loved for the rest of her life. While attending Utah State University, she met James (Jim) Dalley. He was dating a friend of hers, and she went into his workplace to give him her friend's summer contact information. He asked her out and when he later brought up marriage, she said that her dad didn't think she was ready, because she didn't have either a cedar chest or a sewing machine. He gave her one for Christmas and the other for her birthday. They were married on June 10, 1955 in the Logan, Utah LDS temple.
They settled in Logan and had two daughters, Susan and Karen, and a son, Scott during the next few years. In 1969, they moved to Salt Lake City, due to Jim's employment. In the ensuing years, Mom worked for Allred's Inc. as Office Manager, then moved to Cottonwood High School (Granite School District), where she worked as the bookkeeper from 1981 until she retired in 1997. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in every auxiliary and almost every possible calling including Relief Society President, Primary President, instructors in both Relief Society and Young Women's, and one of her favorites, Junior Sunday School Coordinator, both in her ward and stake. She once said that the only calling she'd never had that she wished she had was working in the nursery. For several years in the early 90s, she served as a tour guide on Temple Square, and after her retirement, became a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple for six years.
Ruth loved to travel and visited 80% of the United States and at least 15 countries. She also loved reading, sewing (she designed and sewed dancing costumes for her daughters that were treasures among all of her nieces), and doing word puzzles. One of her favorite experiences was volunteering in the 2002 Winter Olympics, working at the speed skating oval. She was a genuinely kind person and was loved by most people who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, parents-in-law, four sisters, one brother, four brothers-in-law, two nieces, and one great nephew. She is survived by her children; her sister, Elizabeth Miller; brother, Randall (Raylene) Hendricks; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Smith and Mary Lou Mounteer; as well as Abriel and Tynan Tuck Ness, who called her "Grandma," and who she considered her grandchildren in every possible way. In addition, there are friends who became family, Corey and Amber Tuckness, Pat Andersen, and many others.
Her children wish to express their deepest gratitude to the angels at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living, for their warm and tender care over the past four years, in addition to the Home Health Workers at Symbii, especially her hospice nurse, Tia.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Hyland Lake Ward at 981 Revere Circle in Murray. There will also be a viewing Thursday November 17th 6-8 pm at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S 900 E, in Murray, Utah. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
