Ruth Virginia Chriswell Davis, 85, of New Castle passed away early morning Friday, October 15, 2021 at her residence. She was born May 25, 1936 in Clinton County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Henry Murl "Steve" and Mollie "Ethel" (Tuggle) Neal.
Ruth was a homemaker and also had been employed at Welliver's in Hagerstown. She had been a caregiver for her daughter, Margie, and a caregiver outside the home for others. She had also been a housekeeper for doctors and lawyers for many years. Ruth had worked in the transfer department at St. Job Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. She was a member of Southside Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday school. She loved to volunteer and had done so at Raintree Square, The Waters, and God's Grain Bin. Ruth loved traveling, taking a cruise to Alaska with her husband, trips to Brown County with kids and grandkids, but most of all she loved her train trips to Nevada, Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, seeing new places and meeting people. She hosted Thanksgiving every year for 40 years. Ruth loved Mt. Lawn Speedway, where her dad and brothers were race car drivers.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Davis; children, Steve (Donna) Chriswell of Phoenix, Arizona, Vicki Latham (Randy Marcum) of New Castle, Rick (Sandy) Chriswell of New Castle and Martha Zachary of New Castle; step children, Debbie Davis of Spiceland, Roy (Gina) Davis of Hagerstown, and Bob (Ramona) Davis of Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings, Janet (Bob) Duvall of New Castle; Jerry Henry Neal of New Castle; Jack Neal of Sulphur Springs; sister-in-law, Shelby Jean Rice; and a special niece, Rita Sidwell.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde M. Chriswell; daughter, Margie Chriswell; grandchildren, Cory Kirby, DeWayne Brown, and Stacy Chriswell; a great grandson, Brody Bevins; a sister, Juanita Duncan; daughter-in-law, Vicki Lynn Chriswell; and sister in law, Kathy Neal.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Southside Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Randy Tooley and Reverend Gene Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southside Church of the Nazarene, 2804 S. 14th Street New Castle, IN 47362. Services have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
