Ruth Victoria Davis, 96, went home to be with the Lord on December 26, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Gordon Lee Davis, her husband of 62 years who preceded her in death on February 12, 2015.
Ruth was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to the Reverend Daniel Paul Scherrer and Hazel Clark Scherrer. She attended elementary school in Scranton, Pennsylvania and graduated from Williamsport (PA) High School and the Missionary Training Institute in Nyack, New York.
She met her future husband Gordon while both were working for Westinghouse Corporation in Baltimore. They married in February 1953 and moved to Hagerstown in 1958 following Gordon’s early career promotion with Bugle Linen Supply Company.
Throughout the succeeding years, Gordon and Ruth owned and operated several business ventures, including the Tastee Freez and Tastee Catering Service in Chewsville, Ex-Press Printing & Copy Center in Hagerstown, Antietam Bee Supply and Bee Tree Farms.
Ruth was an active member of Evangel Baptist Church for over 40 years where she served as pianist.
She was the mother of six children and survived by Glen Lee Davis, Daniel Harold Davis and wife Mary Ann, G. William Davis and wife Vicky, Victoria Mae Davis, Linda Lurene Kaste and husband Christopher, and Bette Davis Evans and husband Thomas.
She also celebrated eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Ruth is preceded in death by sisters Gertrude and Martha; brothers Allen and Paul, and grandchildren Glen Lee Davis II and Rachel Michelle Davis Manry.
The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is assisting the family with arrangements. The family will receive friends at her church, Evangel Baptist Church, 17922 Broadfording Road, Hagerstown on Thursday, January 2, 2025 beginning at 10:30 AM until the service begins at the church on Thursday at 12:00 PM, with Rev. Ronald K. Faith officiating. Interment will follow in the Garden of Devotion at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
