Ruth Degner Obituary

Ruth Degner, loved ones at her side, died peacefully at her home on February 23. She was just two months shy of her 100th birthday.

Ruth is survived by her children Jeffrey (Marcia), Janice (James), Mark (Karen), Karen (Michael), Mary (Louis), and John (Delia), 14 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, whose birthdays she never forgot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and her son, Kenneth.

Ruth was an excellent bridge player, avid reader, eager traveler, and great fan of Jeopardy! TV show. More than anything, she loved socializing with family, friends, and even perfect strangers.

Ruth was a devoted and active member of Saint Anne Catholic Church for over 70 years. She worked at EBSCO Industries in Barrington for 25 years until retirement. She volunteered for 25 years at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital gift shop, as well as at Catchpenny Resale Shoppe and House of Hope Resale.

A gathering for family and friends will be held at Saint Anne Catholic Church in Barrington on Saturday, March 21, at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM and luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s name can be made to House of Hope at: Saint Anne Hope Ministries, Donate Online

Visitation will be Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 9:30 to time of Memorial Mass 10:30, all at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela Street, Barrington, IL 60010.

Interment to follow Mass at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
