Ruth Dilts

Ruth Virginia Dilts, 99, of Washington Township, NJ passed away peacefully on November 5, 2021 at her grandson's home under hospice care.
Ruth was born on October 2, 1922 at home in Asbury, NJ to the late Walter Charles Petersen and Ella Dalrymple Petersen Goble. Walter passed away when Ruth was very young, and she was raised by her mother and loving stepfather James W. Goble. Ruth graduated from Bound Brook High School class of 1940. She went on to further her education and earned a degree in business from Ryder College. She married Max Stanley Dilts Sr. and they moved to Washington in 1963. Ruth and her husband Max owned and operated Dilts Cleaners and Econ-o-wash Laundromat in Washington, NJ for many years until Max's death in 1984. Ruth was the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church in Washington. She served the church over the years as a Deacon and an Elder. She volunteered at the Washington Community Food Pantry for many years. She also volunteered at Warren Hospital for over 30 years. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who adored caring for her family and friends. Ruth, known by her family as "MomMom" enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Ruth loved holidays, and Thanksgiving was especially dear to her heart. She hosted a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for her large family, and any friends who needed a place to celebrate, for the last 80 years. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Kathleen J. Walsh and her husband Patrick; sons, Robert T. Dilts and Max S. Dilts Jr. and his wife Georgina; a sister Mary Blane; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved brothers Walter Charles Petersen and James William Goble, and a great-great granddaughter Rose Marie Norrell.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday November 11, 2021 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Warren Hills Memorial Home. 234 W. Washington Ave. Washington, NJ 07882. Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday November 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM from the First Presbyterian Church in Washington. 40 East Church St. Washington, NJ 07882. Interment will be private at the Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's name to the First Presbyterian Church in Washington.
