Ruth H. Fleming, 93, of New Castle, early Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026, in The Addison of Clen-Moore Place.
Mrs. Fleming was born June 16, 1932, in New Berlin, PA, a daughter of Ralph and Madelyn (Libbey) Townsend. A 1950 graduate of Lewisburg High School (PA), she later earned her Registered Nursing Certification after completing courses and training at Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing.
For 35 years, Ruth worked as a nurse at Northside Hospital, Youngstown, OH, where she worked in every department of the hospital at one time or another.
Ruth was a member of New Covenant E.P.C., New Castle, and was formerly a member of Word of Grace, Youngstown, OH, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She also volunteered as a nurse on board the La’Gracia Missions Ship.
An avid reader and an excellent swimmer, she served as a lifeguard instructor at the New Castle YMCA for many years and also volunteered as a lifeguard at the church summer camp in Poconos, PA.
Her beloved husband of nearly 72 years, Warren B. Fleming, whom she married February 13, 1954, survives at home.
Ruth is also survived by her twin daughters, Judy Arsham (Dr. Ken), of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Jane Klabon (John), of Mt. Holly Springs, PA; a son, Scott Fleming (Diana), of Hermitage, PA; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Fleming; and a brother, Jim Townsend.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to New Covenant E.P.C., 1911 Harlansburg Rd., New Castle, PA 16101.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday (1-30-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle, with Rev. Jonathan Robinson, officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, PA.
