Ruth Gallagher Obituary

LOWELL

Ruth (Blaha) Gallagher of Lowell, passed away peacefully Christmas morning. Ruth was the wife of the late James J. Gallagher and daughter of the late Emma and Edward Blaha and sibling of Emma Miner, Anna Flannagan and Edward and John Blaha, and Edith Sheehan.

Before her retirement, Ruth was employed for more than 25 years by Raytheon in Lowell. She was a member of the Lowell and Chelmsford Senior Centers and enjoyed a multitude of activities with her friends, especially bingo and cards. Ruth was always ready to get up and go no matter what time of day or where the car was taking her. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her friends Joan and Sylvia. She would have a full day of activities, only returning home to sleep. Her family joked that you needed an appointment to meet up with her.

Ruth loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would always light up with a smile upon seeing them. When her grandchildren were growing up, she would allow them to have or do anything they wanted. She saw that as her role, second to none. Her love of games carried into holiday tradition. Every Christmas Eve she came in carrying a tote bag full of dobbers and bingo sheets. Memories of Ruth calling out bingo numbers and her contagious laughter and one-liners will forever remain a wonderful part of the Gallagher holiday tradition.

Ruth leaves behind three sons and their wives, James and Judy of Tewksbury, Thomas and Judy of Pelham, NH and Richard and Ann of Lowell; five grandchildren and their spouses, Shaun and Laurie Gallagher, Eryn and Rajan Eddy, Abbie and Eric McCue, Joseph Gallagher, and the late Kenneth Gallagher and his wife Elizabeth. She also leaves her sister Marjorie Lawson and 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Nothing made her happier than her family.

Family and friends may call at THE FAY McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 105 MOORE STREET IN LOWELL on FRIDAY MORNING, December 29, 2023, from 10:30 AM until 12 Noon. Ruth's FUNERAL SERVICE will follow at 12 Noon in the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in The Lowell Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 150 Appleton St. Lowell, MA or to the charity of your choice.
