Ruth Arlene Grosland, age 82, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at St. John’s on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was born on November 30, 1941, to Herman and Annie (Gerloff) Hempen, in Grundy Center, Iowa. Ruth was a faithful and loving woman who touched the lives of many throughout her lifetime. She loved Jesus and it was apparent in her gentle ways.
Ruth married the love of her life, Paul Grosland, on August 26, 1961, in Northwood, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Michelle Hjelmen and a son, Daniel Grosland. Together, Paul and Ruth built a beautiful life in Austin, Minnesota.
Ruth found joy in various hobbies and activities. Ruth was an avid memory collector and made many scrapbooks preserving memories for future generations. She also enjoyed genealogy and loved delving into her family's history. Paul and Ruth often embarked on day trips and went antiquing together, creating fond memories along the way. Additionally, Ruth cherished spending quality time with her family, creating lasting bonds and cherished moments that will be treasured forever.
Ruth's zest for life took her on memorable adventures, and she had the opportunity to take an Alaskan cruise and a special trip to Norway with her aunt, Martha. These journeys enriched her life and created unforgettable experiences.
Ruth is survived by her son, Daniel (Kim) Grosland of Johnstown, CO; daughter, Michelle (Troy) Hjelmen of Glenville, MN; grandchildren, Julia Phillips of Prior Lake, MN, Kaelyn Matthews of Loveland, CO, and Lucas (Meggan) Leifermann of Castle Rock, CO; great grandchildren, Sydnee and Reed Leifermann; sisters, Ann Young of Renton, WA and Linda Loken of Northwood, IA; sisters-in-law, Talora Grosland of Albert Lea and Jo Ann (Jim) Villa; brother-in-law, David (Diane) Grosland. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Grosland; parents, Herman and Annie Hempen; brother, Harlan Hempen; and sister, Marrian (Penny) Bradwell.
A funeral service for Ruth will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church in Austin, Minnesota. The visitation will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. A private family interment will be held in Sunset Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa at a later date. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
