Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes - AustinDavid “Gravy” Eugene Giles, age 61, of Kasson, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his sister and brother-in-law’s home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Gravy was born April 3, 1964, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Darrell and Shirley (Barber) Giles. He spent his life working as a cook in various restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as in construction and for Red Nose Lighting. He was known as "Gravy" from his "gravy-job" of just flirting with the waitresses. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and was always building or fixing things. Gravy was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and family. He loved his beer and had to extend his outriggers often at the end of the night, and of course partaking in the lord’s lettuce. Gravy was always down to have a good time, whether it was a BBQ, bonfire or playing games at family gatherings. Always the life of the party! We will remember his zest for life and the need to have a good time! His laugh will be forever heard and remembered. Gravy enjoyed shooting pool, ice fishing and playing poker. He took great pride in being a godfather and a "Papa" and loved teaching his grandchildren everything he knew. The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice for their loving care during Gravy’s last days.
Survivors include his siblings, Lester (Connie) Giles of Cleveland, Minnesota, Dawn (Duane) Miller of Hartland, Minnesota, and Sherri Anderson of Hollandale, Minnesota; nephews and nieces, Jeremy (Shanna) Phillips, Joshua (Dawn) Giles, Jacob (Shannon) Giles, Angi (Brian) Giles, Crystal (Alexander) Jacobsen, and Justin (Sam) Anderson; several great-nieces and nephews; significant other, Rita Seha and son, Corey Newell; grandchildren, Aubrey, Abby, Andrew, Aleena, Gavin, Emelia, and Landon; and his ex-wife, Renata Braatz, they remained great friends, just not spouses. He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell and Shirley Giles of Albert Lea, Minnesota.
A celebration of Gravy’s life will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, with a short service beginning at 3:30 p.m. all at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family and can be mailed to Dawn Miller, P.O. Box 507, Hartland, MN 56042.
