Ruth Ellen Jaskowiak, a cherished matriarch and a woman of wisdom, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Ovid Healthcare Center at the age of 97. In accordance with her wishes she will be laid to rest at Maple River Cemetery in a private service.
Born on January 11, 1928, in Byron, Michigan, to Pirl and Cleo B. (Tillman) Newman, Ruth grew up in a bustling household with nine siblings, where she learned the values of family and hard work that would guide her throughout her life.
On March 8, 1946, she married the love of her life, Frank Jaskowiak, and together they embarked on a journey of love, laughter, and family, raising their three children, Rose, Charlie, and Arthur. Ruth's early career as a telephone operator for the telephone company was a source of great enjoyment and pride for her, providing a foundation for the strong communication skills and personable nature.
Ruth's life was marked by her dedication to her family, which remained her greatest joy. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Charlie (Judith) Jaskowiak and Arthur (Crystal) Jaskowiak, her six grandchildren, and the many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who were blessed to know her warmth and guidance. Her legacy is further cemented by the cherished memories shared with her family, which will be held close to their hearts forever.
Predeceased by her parents, her devoted husband Frank, following 44 years of marriage, her beloved daughter Rose, and her nine siblings, Ruth's passing marks the closing of a significant chapter in the history of a family that has seen much and loved even more.
Ruth's life was a testament of the significant events of the 20th and early 21st centuries that she witnessed. Living through the Great Depression, World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the numerous conflicts in the Middle East, Ruth indeed "saw it all." Her experiences gave her a deep appreciation for her country, and she was a true patriot at heart, supporting the local veterans network with vigor and compassion.
Despite the challenges of the times, Ruth maintained her quick wit and remained "sharp as a tack" throughout her years. Her laughter was infectious, her advice was sought after, and her intelligence was indisputable. Ruth was the epitome of someone who not only adapted to the changing world around her but also thrived in it, always ready with a humorous quip or a piece of sage wisdom.
Her interests extended beyond her family and work; Ruth was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed the thrill of the races. She also found pleasure in watching QVC, where she kept up with the latest trends and products. Her passion for life and her interests kept her engaged and lively, much to the delight of all who knew her.
Ruth Ellen Jaskowiak will be remembered as a woman who was not only funny and intelligent but also as someone who faced life's adversities with grace and humor. She was a model of resilience and strength, and her influence will continue to be felt by those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her presence.
Memorials in Ruth's name should be directed to your local veteran's organization.
