Ruth Judson Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Jan. 9, 2014.
JUDSON Ruth Taft Beakley Judson passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2014 at the age of 91. Ruth was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on July 4th, 1922, the second child of Ruth Taft and George G. Beakley. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1940 where she met and later married the late George Eugene Judson, Jr. Ruth attended Incarnate Word College and The University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and Nu Upsilon Tau Tau (NUTT). Ruth and George married on Sept. 13, 1943, and remained devoted to one another for 67 years until George's death in December 2010. Ruth was always a strong, independent, and industrious woman, and an eternal optimist. Even while George was away as a naval officer during WWII and again during the Korean Conflict, she happily maintained the homestead, raising their three small boys who were born between the wars. Ruth was an avid horsewoman and loved all aspects of outdoor life. She founded and operated The Little Acorn (kindergarten) School from 1952 to 1960 from their country home off Prue Road. She later worked as the bookkeeper at St. Mark's Episcopal Church and at Mini Mansions Christian bookstore. Her faith in God and her love for her husband and children were the foundation of her life. Ruth was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the San Antonio Country Club and participated in events with the Texas Cavaliers where her husband was King Antonio in 1970. She is preceded in death by her husband George Eugene Judson, Jr., by their son Charles Jeffrey Judson, and by her sister, Alice Walker. She is survived by her four boys, Greg Judson and wife Stella and daughter Kaye; Steve Judson and wife Mary Gail and granddaughters Ruth Judson Knapik and her husband Blake and Page Judson Kruse and her husband Jonathan and great-grandchildren Dylan and Taylor Kruse and Miles Judson Knapik; Jim Judson and wife Gay, grandson Ben and his wife Callie Enlow; Jeff Judson and wife Margaret Mickler Judson, and granddaughter Anna Louise, and grandsons Will and George. Jeff and family, So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was one of the sweetest ladies I ever knew. Many fond memories of her and your dad at St. Mark's. Cherish your memories of this special lady.

Of all my friends' "moms" that I knew growing up and as an adult, Ruth was by far my favorite. Witty, unassuming and down to earth, she was a lady of warmth, grace and class. She had a sweet smile and was so easy to talk to, and she always made me feel welcome and glad that I knew her.
We have all been richly blessed to have had her in our lives and there is no question that our world was made much better by her presence.
Condolences, prayers and very best wishes to her family. I know George is sure glad to see her again.
