Ruth Kenkel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frederick Funeral Home on May 5, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of Ruth Kenkel, who departed this life on May 2, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on July 24, 1928, Ruth filled her years with love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who had the privilege of knowing her. A cherished resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ruth leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and creative expression that will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends.
Ruth was the loving wife of the late Dr. Henry J. Kenkel and was a devoted mother to her surviving sons: Henry (Connie) Kenkel, M.D., Thomas (Mary) Kenkel, M.D. and Jeffrey (Mary) Kenkel. She cherished the memory of her late son, James M. Kenkel, Ph.D., who will always remain in the family's heart. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Thomas H. Kenkel, Laura E. Kenkel, M.D., Christine M. Kenkel, D.O., Hillary A. Kenkel, Julie A. Kenkel, and John F. Kenkel, along with her great-grandchildren, Emily Kenkel, Thomas Kenkel, Max Krankkala, Gabriel Maldonado, Penny Nicholas and Yukon Nicholas. Also, survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Rowe and Jerri Boehm.
Ruth was the last of her siblings, having been preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Elmer, Helen, Mildred, George, William, Mary, Albert, Paul, Alice, and Ralph. Her indomitable spirit, grace, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Ruth's legacy is woven from the threads of her creativity, expressed vividly through her love of calligraphy. She was an integral part of the church community, participating in both the church choir and bell choir, sharing her voice and spirit in reflection of her deep faith.
In celebration of a remarkable life, family and friends will gather for a Mass at St. James Church in White Oak on May 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, honoring the memory of a vibrant woman who lived life passionately and purposefully. Prior to the Mass, a visitation will be held at Frederick Funeral Home on the same day from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM. All who knew Ruth are welcome to join us in honoring her life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Doctors Without Borders or Catholic Relief Services, organizations that align with Ruth's compassionate heart and desire to help those in need.
As we gather to celebrate Ruth's rich life, we will remember the warmth of her smile, her boundless love, and the countless lives she touched-a true testament to a life well-lived, forever celebrated in the hearts of her family and friends.
