Ruth Anne "Pam" Matthews
Ruth Anne "Pam" Matthews, 82, of Bloomfield, best friend and beloved wife for 62 years of Thomas Matthews, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
Pam was born in Beacon, NY, daughter of the late William and Ruth (Caruso) Constantino, and graduated from Haldane High School in Cold Spring, NY. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the Insurance industry for many years and supported the Superintendent of Schools in Tolland. Although she was successful in everything she accomplished in her career, the job Pam was always most proud of was that of being a loving and supportive wife to Tom, an amazing mother to Rebecca and Robert, and a super grandmother to Brandon.
Pam and Tom's love story began in 9th grade when they became high school sweethearts and they were together for over 70 beautiful years. Tom's job sent them on a few overseas adventures and they lived in the Netherlands for two years and then in Indonesia for five. While there, Pam became active in their communities and was involved in several charitable organizations, including being the president of the Expatriates Women's Club in Indonesia, coordinating women from 14 different nationalities to help young girls to learn trades so that they could be self-sufficient and supporting children in local orphanages.
Pam was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. She will fondly be remembered as a kind and compassionate woman who loved her family more than anything. She taught her children the value of faith, family, discipline, respect, how to be humble and empathetic, and how to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Pam was very active in her children's lives, attended their events, supported their dreams, and was proud of all their accomplishments. Her love and support got stronger when she was blessed with her grandson, Brandon, and they had a very special relationship. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she consistently put other's needs before her own. Pam's positive attitude and outgoing personality made her a woman that people gravitated toward. With her beautiful warm smile and welcoming spirit, she easily made friends wherever she went. Throughout her life, she championed the causes she felt strongly about until the time she could no longer. Her courage and positivity throughout the toughest of her days inspired those around her to stay active and appreciate life and everything it has to offer.
Pam loved to cook, especially traditional Italian dishes, and to bake, a talent she shared with Brandon, and they spent many hours baking together. Her biggest joy was being with her family and she loved hosting the holidays and special occasions. When the kids were younger, they would frequently visit the Cape, and loved to go to their home in Vermont, where they spent many fun-filled Summer weekends. In later years, she and Tom traveled the world together and particularly enjoyed exploring New Zealand and Italy. Pam also loved art, painting, making cards, Origami, and Crewel work.
Pam leaves a legacy of beautiful memories that will live in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
In addition to the love of her life, Tom, she leaves to celebrate her life, her children, Rebecca (Matthews) and her husband Kevin Aniskovich of Branford, and Robert Matthews and his wife Jennifer of Tolland; her grandson, who was the apple of her eye, Brandon Matthews; her brother, Angelo "Archie" Constantino; sister-in-law, Natalie Matthews, and her brothers-in-law, Chandler "Vic" Cooper and Fred Samuelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, her Duncaster community, and her church family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary Ruth Matthews; and her sister, Mary Cooper.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, February 2, 10 a.m., at Old St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 59 Tariffville Rd., Bloomfield. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pam's honor to the
American Cancer Society.
