Ruth Rushing May, a cherished member of the community, passed away on March 12, 2025, at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Care Center in Paducah, at the age of 88. Born in Livingston County, KY, on November 1, 1936, Ruth’s life was a testament to her deep-rooted connections to her family and her dedication to her community.
Ruth was a beloved matriarch, survived by her two sons, William Leon May and Gaylon Michael May (Cheryl), both of Ledbetter, KY; her daughter, Mona M. Hope, also of Ledbetter; her sister, Rebecca Faye Rushing of Burna, KY,; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
As a member of the Ohio Valley Baptist Church in Ledbetter, Ruth found joy and purpose in her faith. She was an active member of the Busy Bee Ladies Club, a Life Member of the Day Auxiliary, and a Charter Member of the Cherished Teddies Club. Ruth's passion for quilting and her renowned coconut cakes endeared her to many. She derived great joy from creating beautiful quilts and sharing her baking prowess with friends and family. However, it was her love for her grandchildren that stood out as one of her proudest accomplishments, as she nurtured bonds that fostered joy and laughter.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Coy P. Rushing Sr. and Rosie Lee Rushing; her husband, Isaac L. May; two sons, Charles Wayne May and Mark Steven May; three daughters, Linda Ruth Davis, Sharon Yvonne McCormick, and Soundra G. May; three brothers, Horace, Coy Leon, and Joseph Matthew Rushing; and her sister, Opal Y. Travis.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on March 17, 2025, at the Keeling & Goodman Funeral Home in Paducah, KY, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will follow, starting at noon, with Bro. Rodney Cude officiating. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery in Hampton, KY.
