Ruth M. (Desso) McMahon, 88, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2024. She was born at home in Winooski on July 27, 1936 to the late Wilfred and Mildred(Viens) Desso. Ruth married Richard J. McMahon on May 26, 1956. She was employed at McDonalds' for over 30 years. Ruth enjoyed preparing and was a master at making their morning breakfast burritos. Her coworkers called her the "Breakfast Burrito Queen" She also enjoyed crocheting, puzzle books, bingo, watching game shows and soap operas. Above all, she truly loved spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grand/great grandchildren. She always looked forward to family barbeques, apple picking, catching up with everyone and enjoying home cooked meals together. Taking vacations with her children whether it be to Old Orchard Beach in Maine, Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, Lake George in New York or the many unforgettable camping trips to Groton State Park. Ruth cherished dining out and spending quality time with her family and grandchildren at her favorite restaurant "Denny's". Her favorite word to express herself when she was satisfied or finished with something she would say "THERE!"
Ruth is predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Mildred Desso, her two sisters Joyce Costello and Elaine Marshall, her beloved husband Richard McMahon, a son Karl McMahon, a daughter Ann Marie McMahon, and grandsons, Derek and Josh Brunelle. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Valarie "Goldie" and husband, Steve Brunelle; son Robert McMahon and wife Becky McMahon; son Michael "McEd" McMahon and wife Deborah Stough McMahon; daughter Cindy McMahon; sons David McMahon; Richard McMahon; and Darren McMahon; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, Reverend Leo Desso; Norman Desso and special friend Nancy Pigeon; Claire Whitaker; Jacqueline and husband Thomas Whittaker; Leonard Desso and wife Cindy Desso and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff at the Green Mountain Nursing Home for taking care of Ruth and her roommates for making her feel at home. Also, we would like to give special thanks to all the Medical Staff, Doctors and Nurses at the UVM Medical Center that provided care to Ruth and support to our family.
Calling hours will be at the LaVigne Funeral Home on 132 Main Street in Winooski on Thursday, September 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Services will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at the LaVigne Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at the Saint Stephens Cemetery on Gorge Street in Winooski, Vermont.
