Ruth Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors- Milford on Dec. 18, 2025.
Ruth G. Miller of Milford passed away on December 17, 2025. She was 94 years old. Ruth is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Thon, and her husband of 54 years, Walter "Moe" Miller (d. 2004). She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia "Cynnie" Miller and Lisa Hamilton; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexis, Sam, Bryan, and Kyle as well as many close friends and extended family members.
Born on December 19, 1930, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of George A. Thon and Gertrude A. (Morris) Thon and sister to Robert Thon. She was raised in Dearborn, MI where she excelled in school and competitively played every sport available to women at the time.
Ruth went on to graduate from Michigan State University (MSU) in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with minors in Speech-English, Social Studies, and Science and Home Economics. During her time at MSU, she was a part of the Associated Women's Students at MSU and Delta Gamma Mu women's fencing team.
She met her husband, Walter W. "Moe" Miller at MSU on a "blind date" and they married in 1950. They moved to Milford in 1956 where she remained a resident for 69 years. They both started as teachers at Baker Elementary and Moe went on to be full time member of the Michigan National Guard. She raised her children and the Miller household was the place kids loved to hang out. After the two girls were grown, she worked at Mainstreet Art in downtown Milford, where her creativity was allowed to flourish.
Ruth loved DIY projects and was a very artistic person. She was amazing at everything she tried to create right off the bat! She loved to garden, play piano, and win at board games. She loved playing and watching sports, especially MSU football. Her blood ran green and she was a proud MSU spartan alumni. Go green!
