Evart – Ruth Louise Nordman, of Evart and formerly of Cadillac, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, October 31, 2025. She was 66.
Ruth was born on September 29, 1959, in Waterville, Maine, to Rev. Malcolm and Barbara (Ramsdell) Brown. She married Daniel Alan Nordman on February 14, 1987, in Boon, Michigan. Together they shared 23 years of marriage and celebrated the birth of three boys before Dan's passing in 2010.
A devoted wife and mother, Ruth also poured her heart into caring for children. For many years she ran a daycare lovingly known as "Ruthie's Daycare" out of her home. After her time as a childcare provider, she worked more than 15 years in the produce department at Meijer. Ruth enjoyed reading - especially romance novels - cross-stitching, and finding beauty in the simple things. She always loved the fall colors of Michigan's trees, often saying it was "like God had taken a paintbrush and painted all the leaves this time of year." Her favorite Holiday was Christmas, and she always pulled out all the stops- her Christmas village would take up nearly 80% of the living room just after Thanksgiving each year. She also found the time, while raising her boys, to take them to countless hockey practices, tournaments, and games all across Michigan. Ruth loved her trips back to Maine, where she cherished the shoreline and lighthouses, and her many family trips to Disney World. Most of all, she treasured every opportunity to be with her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Paul (Lisa) Nordman of Hart and Andrew Nordman of Clinton Township; five beloved grandchildren, Owen, Alec, Lily, Stella, and Josie; two brothers, Ralph and David Brown; and many loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daniel Nordman; her son Samuel Nordman in infancy; and a brother, Paul Brown, also in infancy.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. A celebration of life luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Temple Hill Church in Cadillac. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
