Ruth B. Odom

March 25, 1920 – January 13, 2026

Ruth B. Odom, born Essie Ruth Ball, passed away peacefully in her home on January 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 105 years old.

Born in Hapeville, Georgia, to Thomas J. Ball and Autry B. Ball, Ruth was raised in the Jacksonville, Florida area alongside her brother, William T. Ball "Bill." She married and became the proud mother of one daughter, Autrey Ann Odom. After a short marriage, Ruth devoted herself to raising her daughter with the loving support of her parents.

Ruth pursued her education and became a stenographer, graduating at the top of her class. She worked for the Duval County Courts for more than 20 years, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism.

She found joy in gardening, cooking for her family, and tending to her beautiful flowers. Ruth was active in her church and a devoted member of The Lydia Circle at the Methodist Church in Orange Park, Florida. She enjoyed weekly bridge games with friends and cherished her standing appointments at The Village Salon on Ortega.

Ruth was known for her compassion and kindness, always thinking of others-bringing meals to those who were ill or sending cards to remind them they were loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William T. Ball; and her daughter, Autrey Ann Larson.

Ruth is survived by her son-in-law, Roger Larson, and five grandchildren: Lynda Adams, who lovingly cared for Ruth for the past nine years, Jeff and Vikki Larson, Todd and Cheryl Larson, Cynthia Larson, and Eric and Donna Larson, along with many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Lynda Adams for her selfless devotion, compassion, and unwavering care, which allowed Ruth to remain at home, surrounded by love and dignity, during the final years of her life.

Ruth will be remembered for her faith, generosity, and the love she shared so freely.
