Ruth Elizabeth (Powell) Pinkerton was born on March 14, 1929 in Saint Francis, KS to Dewey C. and Irene Anna Zimmerly Powell. She attended school in Saint Francis, KS. On November 13, 1945 Ruth was joined in marriage to Edwin John Pinkerton in Goodland, KS. To this union were born 3 children - Dennis L, Judith Ann and Danny L.
Ruth passed from this life on November 14, 2025, at the age of 96 years and 8 months, at the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, NE where she had been living the last couple years.
Ruth held many jobs throughout her lifetime. She helped her mother-in-law hang wallpaper in many houses, worked at Lingo's Grocery Store, worked in the cafeteria at the Benkelman Elementary School, Gambles Hardware, Dundy County Senior Center as a cook, and Farm and Home. After retirement she enjoyed crocheting afghans, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. her granddaughters and great grandchildren were the joys of her life. She enjoyed having tea parties with her granddaughter Delanie.
Ruth is survived by her children, Dennis (Barbara) of Benkelman, NE and Danny (Ruby) of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Shannon (Jerome) Sveeggen of Seward, NE and Brandi Pinkerton of Callaway, NE, Sherry (Roger) Batt, Gregory (Kathie) Mast all of Kearney, NE, Pam (Chet) Nowaczyk of Wausau, WI, Brenda Rodehorst, Michael Mast, both of Kearney; great grandchildren, Delanie (Dustin) Bramer of Miller, NE, Talon Crago of Broken Bow, NE, Connor Sveeggen and Collin Sveeggen both of Seward, NE and Noah Hiatt of Callaway, NE.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edwin "Sonny", infant daughter, Judith, grandson Jeffrey Pinkerton; sister, Phyllis Roelfs and her brothers, Merlen "Bub" Powell and William "Bill" Powell.
Visitation where family will receive friends will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. (MT) at Benkelman Memorial Chapel. A funeral service has been scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 P.M. (MT) with pastor Jim Gleason Officiating. Interment to follow where Ruth will be laid next to her husband of 42 years at Benkelman Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dennis Pinkerton for a designation later.
