Ruth Joan Selway

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Joan Selway, age 93, who left this world on February 12, 2025, just one day shy of her 94th birthday. Ruth was born in Canton, Ohio, on February 13, 1931, where she spent her life making a positive impact on those around her.
Joan began her notable 33-year career at Ohio Bell, where she started as an operator and grew into roles as a trainer and supervisor, showcasing her dedication and leadership skills. After her retirement, she continued to inspire others through her volunteer work, particularly as a Literary Mentor for Canton City Schools Adult Education. Her passion for learning and community service touched many lives and reflected her unwavering commitment to education and empowerment.
A beloved member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Joan was an active participant in church life, lending her beautiful voice to the choir and bringing joy to those around her. With an adventurous spirit, she enjoyed traveling the world, with fond memories of her trips to the Holy Land and Ireland, which held special places in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Burton and Marie Selway and brother Kenneth Selway. Joan leaves behind her nieces Tayha Hostetler and Marca Kaplar, nephews Jeffrey (Nicole) Selway and Andrew McMahon, and her sister-in-law, Paula Selway. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private family service was held by Joan's request.
