Ruth Steinhauser Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Oct. 13, 2008.
Ruth Estelle Robin Steinhauser was born March 2, 1920 and died October 13, 2008. Her parents were Jennie Gertrude Schraut Robin and Edward Richards Robin, both descendents of pioneer Texan families. She was the middle of three daughters, and her sisters, Laura Lee Newman and Grace Ellen Dennis, preceded her in death. She graduated from Jefferson High School where her talent on the flute earned her a musical scholarship to Our Lady of the Lake College. She began teaching during World War II as a kindergarten teacher. She later became Library Supervisor for the Edgewood School District and then with the San Antonio School District. After retirement she began a new career as a clubwoman and volunteer. She enjoyed Woman's Breakfast Club, San Antonio Area Retired Teachers Association, Zeta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, State Association of Pioneers, San Antonio Women's Federation/Alamo District/Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, and the Woman's Club of San Antonio. Also, she and her husband, Bennie, who preceded her in death after 66 years of marriage, loved to travel. She and Bennie traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world, even to all seven continents. She is survived by her three children, Ruth Robin and her husband John Hogue; Bennie Franklin, Jr. and his wife, Barbara; and Jennifer Ann and her husband, Dana Blankenhorn. The six grandchildren are Robin Louisa Morgan and her daughter, Samantha; Leanna, her husband Richard Laubach and children Ryan and Clinton; Benjamin Steinhauser, Lauren Steinhauser, Robin Blankenhorn and John Blankenhorn. She is also survived by numerous nieces including Laura Dennis Smith, Robin Rosemary Dennis, Elizabeth Newman Easterlin, Bonnie Robin Simons and their families. She is also mourned by numerous cousins in the "Robin Clan" and in-laws, nieces and nephews of the Steinhauser family. A service to celebrate the life of Ruth will be held Monday, October 20, 2008, 10:00 a.m., at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough led by Pastor Tim Rowell of Flatonia Baptist Church with a reception to follow at the Woman's Club of San Antonio. Interment will follow in Flatonia, Texas at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, next to Bennie.
