Ruth Mason Summers (age 101) was born on April 30, 1922 in Morrisville, North Carolina to Martha Edwards Mason and Eugene Mason. She was the 10th of 12 children. Ruth grew up in Wake County North Carolina and graduated from Redstone Academy high school in Lumberton, North Carolina.
During Ruth’s career, she worked in the Portsmouth Navy Yard in World War II, where she met her future husband, James Summers. They were married for 57 years. Ruth retired from Veterans’ Administration Hospital as a nurse’s aide in the late 1970’s.
Ruth was a long time resident of Springdale, Maryland. She enjoyed her family, reading, writing poetry and short stories and traveling.
Ruth passed away peacefully on February 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Summers in 2002. She is survived by her daughter Martha Summers and son Daniel Summers.
