Obituary of Ruth Swanson
Ruth Cecelia Swanson, of Mine Hill, NJ, passed away on October 16, 2024, at
the age of 106 years young. She was born on May 28, 1918, in Randolph, NJ,
which later became Mine Hill, NJ. In 1945, she married Harold (Dee) Delos
Swanson, and together they raised two children.
Ruth worked as a nurse in the hospital, in schools, and at Picatinny. Ruth spent her free time knitting,
reading, doing word searches, watching her soap operas as well as the
Hallmark Channel, and playing cards. Everyone knew her as Gigi! She was an
active community member in the Mine Hill senior group and was involved in
her church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Ruth was honored as the
Grand Marshal of Mine Hill's 100th Centennial Celebration Parade, as she
had been there before Mine Hill was established.
Ruth is survived by her two granddaughters, Tracey (Benjamin) Swanson and
Taryn (Thomas) Svercl, and eight great-grandchildren: Adam, Kamryn, Ava,
Brenna, Nicolina, Rachel, Nora, and Gabriel. She is predeceased by her
husband Dee, children Harold and Barbara, her parents Cecelia and Lewis
Weber, as well as her sisters and their spouses, Punch and Gerald Wolfe, and
Lilian and Charlie Pollina.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Dover Presbyterian Church on Sunday,
October 27, 2024, at 5:30 pm. Following the service, a potluck reception will
be held at the church where guests are welcome to bring a dish to share. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ruth's name to the "Home Instead"
visiting nurses charity or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph.
