Ruth Taber

Ruth Taber passed peacefully into Heaven on October 17, 2023 in Newton, Kansas. She was was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 2, 1935.  Her birth name is Ruth Ingeborg Aslagsen. Her family surname was later changed to Allison from Aslagsen. Her maiden name was Ruth Ingeborg Allison. Her father was Sverre Albert (Aslagsen) Allison. He was born in Norway. Her mother was Ella Inglis Peach.  She had one sister, Ella Dagny Claussen who precedes her in death.

Ruth was married to Stephen Clarke Taber in 1954. They had 61 happily married years together until his death in 2015.They were married on June 6,1954 in Bloomfield, NJ. Her religious affiliation was Episcopalian. 

Ruth and Steve moved to West Milford, NJ in a beautiful lake community. This lovely area is where they raised their 3 young children. After 15 years, the cold and snowy winters caused them to move to Pompano Beach, FL.

Ruth had a passion and great talent for decorating. She studied early American antiques and and became very knowledgeable on the subject. Everyone knew that she was a wealth of information on the history of American antiques. She started her own small business called Quaker Hill Antiques which she did for many years. She loved “antiquing” and the buying and selling of these treasures.

When Steve retired from his job, they moved up to New Smyrna Beach, FL and had a lovely home on the water. She continued her antique business in New Smyrna Beach. They lived there for 20 years until her husband’s death. 

Ruth was deeply loved by her family and her friends. She was known as having a big heart and a very generous nature. Friends and family knew that she was always available to listen and to give wise advise. Wherever she lived, her home always had beautiful furniture, paintings and artful objects to delight the eye. She loved having her friends and family over to visit anytime. There are many happy memories of her grandchildren visiting her Florida home. She loved having teatime with cookies and conversing with each of her grandchildren. She taught them to play chess which she learned from her father. She loved her family deeply and in return was loved deeply by her children and grandchildren. Ruth had a very full and happy life surrounded by love. She now is with her beloved husband, Steve, in Heaven. She had a full life well lived. Ruth will be deeply missed by her family and friends and always remembered.

Ruth has 3 surviving children, Katherine Taber, Stephen Taber and Kenneth Taber. She has 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The names of her grandchildren are: Samuel Taber Rowe, William Taber Rowe, Katherine Taber Rowe, Stephen Taber Rowe, Stephen Matthews Taber, Elizabeth Taber, Linden Taber, Katherine Taber, and William Taber.
