Ruth Vanderpool Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2025.
Born Nov 26th 1933 in Reykjavik, Iceland, Ruth Strange was sandwiched between multiple brothers in a large family. She grew up physically active, adventurous, and independent, traits that would continue throughout her life. She enjoyed downhill skiing, bike riding, and outdoor scouting activities. As a young woman, Ruth flew with Icelandic airlines as one of their first flight attendants traveling throughout Iceland, Greenland, Europe, and Africa. She met John B Vanderpool through a mutual friend as John was stationed in Iceland with the US Navy. They "fell flat" for each other and were married Feb 19, 1959. They would be married for more than 60 years (photo). Ruth and John and two children and 3 grandchildren. After missing John for 4 years, Ruth decided it was time to "go Bye Bye" and she passed peacefully in her sleep. They are interred together at the WA Veterans Cemetery.
