Funeral Services for Ruth Weaver will be held at 10:00AM Saturday, August 10, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Michael Sims officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA.
Mrs. Weaver was born on September 2, 1921, in Calistoga, CA. She drove an ambulance for the Army in WWII. Mrs. Weaver was one of the first people to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge the day it opened on May 27, 1937. She was the only civilian that delivered orders to ship captains telling them their missions. Mrs. Weaver and her sister were well known as the Crawford Sisters and sang live at radio stations all over California. They sang at the 1939 Worlds Fair and were recorded by Warners Brothers and offered a recording contract but her parents said no because they were too young. Mrs. Weaver was an amazing mom to 6 children and sometimes worked 3 jobs (and even sold blood) to provide for her family. Then she met Poppy and he stepped in and stepped up. On the 13th of August they would be married 65 years. He would always tell her that she was his girl and he had her for 64 years, and wanted 64 more.
Mrs. Weaver is preceded in death by her sons, Ronald Sullivan, and David Weaver; grandson, Chris Hollingsworth and great granddaughter, Lesxi Allen.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Marshall Weaver; children, Donald Lyon Porter and wife, Lynn, Jay Wesley Hollingsworth and wife, Terri, Jan Woolsey and husband, Butch, and Clay Hollingsworth and wife, Susan; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shane Reynolds, Gage Holllingsworth, Bo Hatten, Nathan Gomila, Trent Gomila, and Jay Naron.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, August 9, 2024.
