Ruth Wellspeak Obituary

Ruth Marlene Wellspeak 1937 - 2022 Adams Ruth Marlene (Fountain) Wellspeak, 85 of Adams, MA died on Tuesday September 20, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in North Adams, MA on June 15, 1937 a daughter of Laurence Louis Fountain and Louise Emma (Hyndman) Fountain. She attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School. Ruth worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. for many years and was last employed by Developer Finance Corporation in Williamstown. Her office work also included working for lawyers and judges as well. She would have enjoyed being a court stenographer or a paralegal during her career days. She later worked part-time at Sweetwood of Williamstown where the residents held her in very high regard when she worked there as their health aide. She also worked as a part-time receptionist at Williamstown Commons. She spoke fondly of her youth in North Adams, where she flourished in shorthand in high school. Ice skating, learning to drive and going to dances were some of her favorite youthful activities. She also enjoyed attending night school classes and assisting in night school classes as a younger woman. She was happy and proud of her French-Canadian and Scottish heritage. She enjoyed walking, jogging, and spending time outdoors with her family. Ruth loved sunshine, warm weather, flowers, butterflies, fall leaves, ocean beaches, driving, tennis, shopping, restaurants, exercising, music, playing the piano and keyboard, knitting, sewing, ice cream and all sweet tasting foods, owls, cardinals, girlishly blue houses, Ireland, Maine, Hawaii, art projects, and playing holiday bingo. Ruth was a favorite in her workplaces, where she focused on helping people there with a smile on her face and she became a popular acquaintance of many people over the years. Throughout her whole life, she was devoted to her beloved parents and to her children, and she cherished her close friends. Finally, Ruth was a lifelong devotee of all her pets, especially to grooming them and spoiling them as well. She was the widow of Raymond Lawrence Wellspeak who died on June 17, 1972. They were married on June 21, 1958. Survivors include two daughters-Dawn N. Wellspeak of Adams, MA and DeAnna L. Wells of Adams, MA and one son Raymond L. (Elizabeth) Wellspeak of Westfield, MA. She was predeceased by two brothers and one sister- Geraldine Fountain, Laurence L. Fountain Jr., and Robert D. Fountain. The services and burial for Ruth Wellspeak will be private.
