Ruth Mary West

Ruth Mary West, 81, passed away peacefully December 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 22nd, 1944, to Emil and Elizabeth Schweikert.
Ruth attended Margaret Park School in Akron and graduated from Manchester High School in 1962. She was a devoted member of the Akron Baptist Temple where she supervised the nursery for 40 plus years until moving her membership to Ambassador Baptist Church in Wadsworth, where she continued her Godly work in the nursery and Awana program. Along with her church activities she worked at Firestone Rubber Company and for 31 years at The Akron Beacon Journal as a linotype operator.
In 1965 she married love of her life Thomas West where they spent 60 loving years together. Together they had three children, Craig (Sheryl), Steve (Brandi), and Michelle (David) Stratton. They blessed her with 10 wonderful grandchildren, Jordan West, Brooke West (Nate), Zachary (Sarah) West, Justin (Stephanie) West, Skyler West, Braden West, Savannah (Kyle) Capozzi, Makenna West, Logan West, Arabella Stratton and one great grandchild Taya West.
Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sibling and friend. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she cherished them deeply. We were all blessed to have her in our lives and we will miss her every day.
We would like to acknowledge the amazing hospice staff at Akron Summa Hospital for their loving, gracious and special care of Ruth and her entire family.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 3rd from 10:00 to 12:00pm at Ambassador Baptist Church, 620 Trease Rd., Wadsworth, OH 44281. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm at the church following visitation.
