Ruth Elaine Leonard was born on April 23rd, 1935, to Glen and Lillie (Clement) Leonard in Beaver City, Nebraska.
She moved to the area Mead, Colorado with her parents and siblings at a young age. She had six sisters and two brothers. She graduated at the age of seventeen from Mead High School.
She married Raymond Edward Wetzel on February 25th, 1953. Together they had five children; Raymond and Bethine (Neefe) Wetzel of Offerle, Glenda Wetzel Klein of Searsport, Maine, Wayne and Dolores (Rush) of Spearville, Nancy and Ron (Ahsmuhs) of La Quinta, California.
She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with her two youngest great grandchildren, Amelia and Marshall. She said they kept her young.
She enjoyed reading, mowing and doing anything outside.
She is survived by her children, her sisters Pat (Orville) Miller and Marilyn (Gene) Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, two brothers, four sisters, her son Dale Wetzel as well as her granddaughter, Christina Wetzel.
The funeral is to be held at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. After the internment, a luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall located in the basement.
Memorials are to be made to Zion Lutheran Church in care of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley.
