It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth M. (Bailey) Wilson, age 87, on August 30, 2024. Ruth peacefully passed away at her home in Baltimore, VT, with her loving husband of 52 years, by her side.
Ruth was born April 16, 1937, in Burlington, VT to Lucille Whitehead. She was soon after adopted by Orin C Bailey and Avis Edna (Crowley) Bailey of Springfield VT. Ruth graduated from Springfield high school in the class of 1955 and attend classes at Castleton state College.
On June 9, 1972, Ruth married her beloved husband Edward, and together they made their home in Baltimore, VT. They raised a beautiful family of seven children and created countless cherished memories. Ruth had a passion for knitting, was an avid reader, and had a deep love for all animals, particularly horses and dogs. She enjoyed various genres of music and loved to dance. Ruth and Ed were active members of a local square dance club for many years. She had a secret passion for infomercial shopping and was a collector of all things that were important to her. She loved to travel and go camping with her family. Her farthest adventures took her across the Atlantic Ocean to England, Belgium and the Netherlands where she and Ed visited her brothers-in-law's gravesite from WWII.
Ruth held many positions throughout her life, in her younger years she was an intermediary telephone operator who manually connected calls on a central switchboard system, a job that does not exist in today's world. She worked for several years in the administrative office for CCV, and before retiring, worked as a case worker for Healthcare and Rehabilitation Services (HCRS). Outside of her professional life, she was an active member of the Rainbow Girls, a youth organization that promotes leadership and community service. Her dedication to the organization led her to become a Mother Advisor. Additionally, she was a proud member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Ruth will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, strength, and willingness to help others will continue to inspire us. She leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will forever be cherished.
Ruth is survived by her Spouse Edward E. Wilson of Baltimore VT, her children Michael (Peggy) Hall of Lafayette IN, Juli (Bud) Desautels of W. Springfield MA, Patrick (Laureen) Hall of Rockingham VT, Lisa (Bill) Hall of Sharon NH, Fawna (Patrick) Start of Johnson VT, and Dennis (Tracy) Wilson of VT. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Sharron Burt.
She was predeceased by her parents, her Aunt Louise (Whitehead) Coates of Burlington VT, her daughter Nicki D. Farren of Springfield VT, and grandson James E Ferguson of Gallatin TN.
Graveside services will be held on September 22, 2024, at Oakland Cemetery, Springfield VT at 10:00 am with a reception to follow at the American Legion in Chester, VT at Noon.
