Ruth (Van Treuren) Wit , age 85, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025. She was born February 20, 1940 in Patterson, New Jersey to Conrad & Sadie Van Treuren.

Ruth grew up in Little Falls, New Jersey with her parents and two older brothers, Roy and William (Bill). Faith, church and serving others were modeled by her parents from an early age. She came to the Chicago area to study at West Suburban Nursing School in Oak Park, Illinois where she earned her RN degree. Ruth used her nursing skills in various hospital and doctor office settings for over 50 years.

She met Gerald (Jerry) Wit just a few weeks after she started nursing school. During their 64 years together they built a family, traveled extensively, enjoyed many music concerts, attended hundreds of sporting events for their kids and grandkids, served at College Church in Wheaton and enjoyed their family and friends.

She will be remembered for her humor, her love for her family and for serving others. She loved to garden and create things. Many have received her beautiful knitted or crocheted gifts or special baked treats. More than anything, Ruth will be remembered for her deep love for Jesus and her complete confidence in His plan for her life. In her last days, it was often her prayer that she would keep her eyes fixed on Jesus when it was her time to go home.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jerry; her children Sharon (Paul) Heggeland, Linda Wit, Stephen (Rebecca) Wit and her grandchildren Jake (Molly) Heggeland, Britta Heggeland, Jared Heggeland, Isaac Wit, Isabel Wit, Ingrid Wit and Ivy Wit. Her great-granddaughter Lainey Heggeland was born just a few days before her passing. There are many other in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends she has loved as her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and other family and friends that were dear to her.

A visitation will be held at College Church in Wheaton, 332 E. Seminary Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. To livestream the service please click here. Burial will be private at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
