RUTHIE HANKINS Obituary
Ruthie L Hankins, 68, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, surrounded by her only child, Reginald, and her loving family. Born in Indianapolis, on January 24, 1956, she was the daughter of Aaron Price and Lucille Stokes Price.
Ruthie confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. Recently, she found peace and joy in fellowship with Compassion Church Ministries.
She attended IPS #22 and graduated from Harry E. Wood High School in 1974. Ruthie was a Varsity cheerleader alongside her lifelong best friend, Debbie (Webb) Vandever. On September 24, 1972, Ruthie's greatest blessing arrived-her son, Reginald "Pook" Miller. She loved him deeply and was so proud of him. Being the excitement of her life–they shared countless unforgettable experiences and adventures together.
Ruthie's life was full of laughter and adventure. Every Wednesday she and her sister Della hosted garage sales and thrift shopped, hence her numerous storage units. Being a wise, frugal and calculated shopper, her signature look was classic Ralph Lauren Polo. When not on the dance floor jamming to her favorite song "Flashlight" by Parliament/Funkadelic, she would regularly showcase her sassy moves on her roller skates. Heading into retirement she remained gainfully employed, affording her the luxury of enjoying traveling, including a special trip to the Bahamas with her niece Tracy. When settled in her home, her love for her "grand-joys' was infectious, and you could always find the youngest,–Price, close by, as he said, "Grandma was his best friend."
Her quick wit and infectious laugh brightened family functions, especially during their annual Christmas gatherings. Even in difficult times, Ruthie kept her sense of humor and positive spirit. She will be remembered for her warm smile, great advice, the love for her relatives and her church family.
She was predeceased by both her parents; sisters, Anna Belle Wilkins, Gertha Murff, and Phyllis Nickson, and brothers, Willie, Robert (Bobby), and Donnie Price. Her former spouse, Alfred Hankins, also preceded her in death.
Ruthie leaves to cherish her memories her son, Reginald Joe Miller; her grandchildren, Reginald Rashad Miller, Devren Javon Miller (Korah), Daija Renea Miller, Loviticus Victrell Joe Miller, Victoria Lovell Joi Miller, Chayil Faith Elaine Miller, and Price Joseph Miller; her great-grandchildren, Beckham Mourning, Rowyn, Trayce and Nola Kay Miller; her brother, Charles Price; sisters Carol Patterson (Donzay), and Della and Trudy Price; loving sister-in-law, Nancy Price; bonus grandson, Daijaryon Cooper; many nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Todd Price and Larry Lloyd, many cousins, other family and friends.
