Ryan Ispisua Obituary

Ryan Thane Ispisua, 57, unexpectedly passed away on December 18, 2025. Ryan was born on January 21, 1968, in Elko, Nevada, to Pete Ispisua and Winona Austin.

Ryan attended Elko elementary schools and graduated from Elko High School in 1986. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Health & Safety from Columbia Southern University and held certifications as a Wildland Firefighter Type 2, Industrial Firefighter 1, and licensed EMT. He also served as an Officer/Instructor for both the Nevada Fire Science Academy and the State of Alaska Fire Training Center.

Starting his career in the early 1990s with the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Ryan dedicated over three decades to firefighting, mine rescue, and workplace safety. His passion for protecting others took him across the West, from Nevada to Alaska to California and Arizona, touching countless lives through his unwavering commitment to keeping others safe. Above all, Ryan was devoted to his family: a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who cherished every moment with those he held dear.

Ryan is survived by his loving wife, Nannette; daughters Skyler "Skye" and Peyton "Sissy"; grandson Colton Ispisua; parents Pete (Robin) Ispisua and Winona Perez McBrayer; brother Lucio Perez; aunts Lisa Austin (John) Gines and Wendy Ispisua; uncles Frank Ispisua and Bartolo Echebarria; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Ryan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Orval and Gladys Austin; paternal grandparents, Henry and Miren Ispisua; Pop Clemente Perez; aunt Ramona Echebarria; uncles Hank Ispisua and Jim Wright; and great uncle Luciano Arano.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on April 11, 2026, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elko, Nevada, with a luncheon reception immediately following at Mater Dei Hall.

Ryan leaves behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, and resilience that will live on in every life he touched, whether family or friend.

The Ispisua family would like to give a special thank you to the Burns Funeral Home for their unending compassion and kindness.

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." - Psalm 73:26.

I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Ryan. I went to school with him from Happy Days Nursery School all the way through high school graduation. Seems he went too soon as did his Aunt Ramona, whom I remember fondly. Condolences to his family and may you find peace, Ryan, at the end of the end of your journey.
