Obituary of Ryan Matthew Lonis
It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Ryan Matthew Lonis on May 21, 2025 from health complications he was about to address on the day of his passing.
Ryan was born on November 1, 1980, a son of the late David Nelson Lonis and Louann (Galeotti) Lonis. He was educated in Utica Schools and was a 1999 graduate of TR Proctor High School. Ryan was an entrepreneur at heart and owned several successful businesses. He enjoyed hiking with his family, particularly in the woods at New Hartford Town Park, including hiking with Scarlett and Hilary when Scarlett was only five days old. Ryan had a larger than life heart and was friends to all, often helping out others in need when no one else would help them. Ryan always had a way of making people feel special by listening to, and caring deeply, for them. He was extremely generous to others, but cared very little about material possessions for himself. In fact, I think we all wish Ryan would have cared about himself a lot more, but his focus was always on taking care of others. Ryan treated everyone like his family, calling his closest friends his brothers and sisters. To Ryan's brothers and sisters: you are too numerous to list and I fear I may accidentally forget one of you - just know he loved all of you with all his heart.
Ryan is survived by his cherished daughter Scarlett Lake Lonis who he adored above all else. Known as his "Honey Bear," Ryan would have given his life for her. Ryan is also survived by his ever-devoted wife Hilary Jo Lonis who tried desperately to get him the help he needed. Everything Ryan did in life was done for his wife and daughter and he dreamed of getting all of us a house "in the country" with a huge backyard for Hilary's gardening and a German Shepard puppy for his animal-loving daughter Scarlett. Ryan is also survived by his mother, Louann Lonis, and her boyfriend Terry Lust, who cared for and laughed with Ryan in his final days, instilling the hope in his heart that he needed to go forward. Ryan also leaves behind a sister Kelly (Dana) Lonis, their children, Maddox, Michael, and Miriam, a brother David Lonis, Hilary's large family in Northern Maine, who all loved him, along with so many dear friends that are far too numerous to mention. Ryan always thought about others that passed before him and missed them with intense emotion and deep sadness. Whenever someone he loved died, they took a piece of him with them. Ryan is predeceased by his cherished father David Nelson Lonis, his grandfather Louis J. Galeotti, with whom he shared a strong bond, his uncle Marc J. Galeotti, grandparents David and Betty Lonis, and his uncle Jack Lonis. Ryan is also predeceased by numerous very close friends who he thought of as his brothers and we all truly hope he has reconnected with all his beloved friends and family in Heaven.
The family would like to thank Marc and Elaine Altamuro for the dedication and compassion they showed in helping Ryan.
Visitation for family and friends is Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at The Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, N. Utica. His visitation will end with prayer at the funeral home, as we say our final good-byes. In honor of Ryan's memory, please help someone that you know in need.
