S. Gooch Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand from Nov. 17 to Nov. 18, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Mr. S. Edward Gooch, of LaGrange, passed away on November 16, 2025. He was born in Prospect, Tennessee, on January 7, 1933 and was raised in Athens, AL.
We honor the life of a remarkable man who lived his 92 years with purpose, energy, and love for the people around him. He was a loving husband and a dedicated father and grandfather who was always present, always steady, and always willing to help. He had a love for NASCAR Racing, travel, and El Caminos.
A proud Air Force retiree, he carried the discipline and determination he learned there into everything he did. Over the years he became a successful business owner, a skilled salesman, and a construction mastermind who could take an idea and build it into reality. Work became his favorite hobby, and his work ethics were to be admired. His last normal day of work was actually Friday, November 7th, 2025.
His faith mattered to him, shaping the way he lived and treated others. Those who knew him knew they could count on his honesty, his humor, and his ability to answer every electric, plumbing or construction question anyone might ask.
He rarely traveled to work without his dog, Lady, who was more than a pet, she was his companion, his shadow, and his nap partner.
His life was full, active, and well-lived. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and countless stories that will continue to be shared by the people who loved him most.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years Sue A. Cooley Gooch, his children, Teressa Pattillo, Ronnie Gooch, Mark Gooch (Genie), Neal Gooch (Jennifer), Susan Bailey (Doug), Robin Olinger (Rusty), and Brad Cooley (Mikki); his grandchildren, Daniel Pattillo (Vicky), Lori Lawrence (Jason), Dusty Pattillo (Lessie), Devin Pattillo (Jeana), Holly King (Matt), Heather Molena (John),Chance Gooch (Shana), Alec Gooch (Allison), Dawson Gooch, Jonathan Gooch, Hudson Gooch, Haddon Gooch, Sbu Nkosi, Alicia Bilbo (Travis), Amber Hogg (Daniel), Ashley Hadley (Dalton), Ethan Crouse, Sarah Crouse, Ricky Cooley, Hunner Cooley, Ellayna Cooley, 18 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gooch is preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon and Mamie Gooch, 6 brothers, 2 sisters and his son-in-law, David Pattillo.
