Sadie Mae (Allen) Brodie was born on September 20, 1937, in Granville County, North Carolina, to the late Moses Allen and Pattie Lee (Moss) Allen. Sadie Mae was the first child of four; her siblings are Mozell, Betty, and Richard.
Sadie Mae was baptized at Hawkins Chapel Baptist Church in Franklinton, NC, where she was an active member. She received her education in the Granville County school system and attended Creedmoor High School. Sadie Mae married Joseph F. Brodie (deceased) in 1953. Through this union, they were blessed with six children, five daughters, and one son. In 1955, they relocated to Boston, MA.
After coming to Massachusetts, Sadie Mae joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury, MA, in the early 1970s. She held several jobs, working at a curtain and a candy factory, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Polaroid. She retired from Polaroid in 1995. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking, and playing cards. She was a loving, caring, and giving mother who always wanted to see people happy and loving one another. She regularly donated to over ten charities, including the Hester Family Scholarship Fund.
When her health began to decline, she wanted to receive care at home, and her daughters Kim, Marion, Mildred, and granddaughter, Khamara, provided care for her until her death.
Sadie Mae was married to Joseph F. Brodie for 66 years. Joseph preceded her in death. Three of their children also preceded her in death, Cynthia A. Brodie-Coleman, (Elliot Coleman, deceased), Sharon A. Brodie-Coleman, (Walter Bruce Coleman Sr.), and Joseph L. Brodie. She leaves to mourn her remaining children Marion Brodie, Kim Brodie-Cleaves (Michael A. Cleaves), and Mildred R. Brodie, her siblings Mozell Baker, Betty Humphries, and Richard Allen, eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Minister Mary Parker-Woods, and a loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
