Sadie Wright Obituary

Published by Legacy on Dec. 12, 2025.
Sadie Wright, born Sadie Ann Christopher on August 14, 1925, in Eden, Maryland, was a beacon of resilience and love in the lives of all who had the fortune of knowing her. She was a woman whose spirit was as vibrant as the Maryland sunsets she cherished. With a heart that held an ocean's worth of love, Sadie navigated the waves of life with a grace and strength that was awe-inspiring. As Maya Angelou once said, "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." Sadie embodied these words, living a life that was rich in experience, abundant in love, and never defined by its trials. On November 30, 2025, Sadie entered eternal rest at the blessed age of 100.

Sadie attended Flower Hill Church in her younger years. Sadie was not just a woman of profound resilience but also a woman of tireless industry. For many years, she worked diligently as a laborer in the poultry business, where her strong work ethic was a testament to her commitment to providing for her loved ones. She was a woman who took pride in her work, pouring her heart and soul into everything she did. Sadie made Salisbury, Maryland her home, where her warmth and kindness touched countless lives. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, "The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." In her own unique way, Sadie lived these words to the fullest.

Sadie loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. When she was younger, she lovingly prepared Sunday dinners and homemade desserts for her family. Loved flowers and bragged on her son's vegetable garden. She enjoyed reading her bible and praying daily. She was also very affectionate to "her doggie, "Bless."

Sadie loved to sing and serve the Lord and was a member of the choir and usher board. She took her children to church faithfully and instilled the Word of God in them. As an adult, she continued to be a faithful member of JOY Ministries until her health declined. She loved her Pastor and First Lady and the entire congregation.

Sadie leaves behind an enduring legacy in her children Sharon Cottman (Sydney) of Eden, MD, Portia Dixon (Martin) of Salisbury, MD, Oscar Wright (Deneen) of Salisbury, MD, Marilyn Bryant (Darnell) of Salisbury, MD, Elvis Wright (Mary) of Berlin, MD, Anthony Wright (Ruth) of Snow Hill, MD, Sophia Wright of Princess Anne, MD, and Lisa Wright of Salisbury, MD. Their lives reflect Sadie's tenacity, love, and indomitable spirit. In addition to her own children, Sadie loving assisted with raising Deidre Wright and several other grandchildren as her own. Along with three generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Malinda Stanford and father, her brother Tyrone Stanford, husband Howard Bates, and children Jonathan, Petula, and Janice. Each of them held a special place in Sadie's heart, and their memories continue to live on through the stories and lessons she shared.

In the words of Helen Keller, "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Sadie's love, strength, and spirit will forever be a part of those who knew her. We invite you to share your memories of Sadie, upload photos, and celebrate her life on her memorial page.
