The Obituary

I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
Timothy 4:7-8

Sallie Mae (Knight) Fields was born on May 17,1927 to the late Sallie Tenell and Isiah Knight of Quincy, Florida. She was affectionately known as Sister, Auntie, Aunt Sallie, Aunt Sister, Granny, Granny Pooh, My Pooh, Sal, Willie Earl's 1st wife, Mae Fields, Grandma Sallie and Momma. She attended public schools in Gadsden County, but later received her GED in her 30's. She began working for the Hinson family at an early age. She was a housekeeper, caregiver and caterer for over 60 years. She had a way about her that mesmerized each person that she came in contact with. She was kind, always smiling and generous. Most of all she shared LOVE freely and unconditionally
with her family and the Gadsden County Community as a whole. (especially The Pepper Hill and St. Hebron Communities) She became a proud member of Mt. Carmel Primitive Baptist Church at a young age. She was a cheerful giver until she took ill. She retired at 72 years young.

Mrs. Fields was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Fields of 48 years and her only son Ernest Lorenzo Fields. Sallie coined herself to be a "STRONG BLACK WOMAN" that was "Tailor made". She peacefully slipped away while surrounded by her family and friends at her home on Monday, January 12, 2026. Sallie leaves to cherish her memories a daughter Sandra Banks (Willie Earl) and bonus son Irvin Fields; 4 Grandchildren: Anisha Banks, Shana Joiner (Kowalski), Erin Rittman (Shontel), and Willie Earl Banks, JR.
