Sally Hoskinson Obituary

Sally Hoskinson

January 1, 1946 - January 14, 2026

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our mom, Sally Ann Hoskinson (Renfro), who passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side in Fort Pierre, South Dakota on January 14, 2026. Sally was born in Iowa on January 1, 1946 to Ronald and Flova Renfro (Tribolet). The family moved from the farm near Beebeetown, Iowa to Arvada, Colorado where she grew up to meet the love of her life, Leonard Jay Hoskinson. Sally and Len left Colorado seeking opportunities and adventures across the country, settling in Montana where they built a house and home together and raised their two children near Whitehall, Montana. Later, they moved to Alaska where they enjoyed the outdoors, including snowmobiling and bear watching on Kodiak Island. Sally and Len returned to Lolo, Montana to be closer to family. They spent several winters traveling to and camping in the southwest and Death Valley. They also enjoyed trying their luck at the slots and tables in Jackpot and Las Vegas.

Sally started her career as a hairdresser, owned a small gift shop in Whitehall, but spent most of her career working for various federal agencies, including the United States Geological Survey, Soil Conservation Service, Forest Service, and Internal Revenue Service. With a full-time job Sally had her hands full raising two children, one of whom had an unruly streak and referred to him as an "orangutang". Nevertheless, Sally somehow always had dinner on the table.

Sally loved the outdoors and was fortunate to live in a place where it was right in her front yard. She spoiled the local bird population with multiple feeders for decades, enduring unwelcomed visits from black bears. She and Len shared their love of fishing and floating Montana's rivers with their children and grandchildren. Sally was also an avid and cutthroat Scabble player. She lived a great life with her best friend, Len, of 47 years. Sally always put her family first and was a devoted grandma who loved to spoil her grandchildren. She was a kind and generous person with a good sense of humor and quick smile.

Sally is survived by her son James (Connie), daughter Paige (Tim) Olson, grandchildren Madison, Jefferson, and John, brothers-in-law Tim (Tony) Hoskinson, Tim Daniels and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law (Jay and Helen Hoskinson), husband, sister (Marian Davidson), sister-in-law (Diana Daniels), niece (Stephanie Daniels) and beloved animals and best buddies Mandy, Katie, Scooter, Toby, Gus, Rudy, Tom, and Tommy.
