Sally R. Leon, 82, of
Washington, IL, passed away at 8:30 am on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at her residence.
She was born on November 12, 1942, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of Vernon and Lucille Hinrichsen Smith. She married Larry Leon Sr. in Clinton, IA, on August 31, 1963. He passed away on June 13, 2017. Her parents and one sister, Jeanne Judge, one son in law Nick Davis preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children Lauri (the late Nick) Davis of Chillicothe, IL, Larry "Joe" (Susie) Leon Jr. of Chillicothe, IL, Gary (Tonya) Leon of Pekin, IL, Mark Leon of
Washington, IL and Sarah (Trent) Kaufmann of East Peoria, IL. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren Josh (Carla) Burton, Jeremy (Amy) Burton, Dustin (Karen) Leon, Heather (Gill) Colwell, Shelby Davis, Zak (Rachel) Davis, Michael (Bailey) Leon, Dakota (Sierra) Edwards, Jasmine Turner, Jacob Leon, Kaylin (Isaac) Stevenson, Andrea Edwards, Abby Leon, Andrew Kaufmann, and Matthew Kaufmann; and eight great-grandchildren Alyssa, Emily, Hailey, Hannah, Jack, Riley, Ryker and Adonis, along with one sister Kathy (Steve) Zabokrtsky of Troy Mills, IA.
Sally's career as an office manager was marked by her unwavering commitment to the well-being of others, having served with compassion at Travelers Insurance, Galena Park Nursing Home, Rosewood Care Center, Riverview Nursing Home and retiring from Washington Christian Village, now known as Washington Senior Living.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Sally was deeply involved in the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Brownie's, where she took on the roles of a leader, and committee member with enthusiasm and grace. Her guidance shaped the lives of many young scouts, instilling values of leadership and community service. Sally's interests extended to the quiet corners of her personal life, where she found joy in the pages of a good book and the serene beauty of her angel collection, which was a source of inspiration and comfort to her.
Sally was renowned for her unwavering presence at every sporting event, dance recital, and band concert, cheering on not only her children but every child with equal enthusiasm. Her dedication to her family's activities was matched only by her infectious spirit, which uplifted everyone around her.
Most importantly, Sally was devoted to her family, cherishing every moment spent with her beloved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her presence was a source of love and joy; her legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and the countless memories she shared with those she held dear. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and all who knew her.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 am on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Barry Long from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Peoria will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 5 pm until 7 pm. Burial will follow her service at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
