Sally Jean Mimms

Sally Jean Mimms, age 89, of Visalia, California, went to Heaven on Jan. 6, 2026. Sally was born on May 20, 1936 in Cincinnati Ohio, to Edward and Ruth Wilson. Sally was raised in Chandler, Arizona where she graduated from Chandler High School. Sally attended Colorado Women's College and decided to transfer to The University of Arizona Tucson, where she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and a Minor in Music. Sally was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, and Order of the Eastern Star. Sally was offered her first teaching position in California and moved there from college. She spent over 30 years as a junior high physical education teacher at Yosemite Junior High in the Fresno Unified School District. Sally loved teaching and considered it her calling. Her son David remembers her coming home from school and she told him "I had a student tell me today that their mom had been one of my students." Sally had a huge impact on many children throughout her years as a teacher. She enjoyed playing the piano and loved dancing. She enjoyed good music and attending the symphony. Sally was an amazing cook and loved to travel. She was known for her kindness, strength, and generosity, and she touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She loved her family fiercely and cherished time spent with all of them. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed and remembered.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Mimms of 31 years, her parents Edward Wilson and Ruth Haggard, her brother Donald Wilson, sister-in -law Joan Wilson, sister-in-law Ann Wilson, and her stepson Mark Mimms.
Sally is survived by her son, David Mimms (Terri), her daughter Debbie Seeger (Ken), stepson Marty Mimms (Sandy), daughter-in-law Karen Mimms, stepson Rick Mimms (Teresa), her brother Dave Wilson, her niece Tina Wilson, her nephew Don Wilson (Diana), her nephew Derrick Wilson (Rhonda), her niece Julie Schwartz (Stephen), her grandchildren, Ellie Seeger, Kevin Seeger (Jordan), Haley Seeger, and Kacey Seeger (Allison), step-grandchildren Mark Mimms, Jr. and Jon Mimms, Garrett Wilkes, Lynzie Wilkes, and 5 great-grandchildren, Emmie, Hudson, Sophie, Beau and Hank Seeger, and many close friends and numerous relatives.
A graveside service and burial were held on January 12, 2026 at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba, California for immediate family members. A Celebration of Life will be held in March in Arizona. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Sally, please visit our floral store.
