Sally J. Naumann, a resident of Lowell Street since 1963, passed away peacefully on August 14, at the age of 93. Born on August 9, 1931, in Mamaroneck, New York, Sally was the daughter of Alfred William Naumann of Switzerland and Minnie Taylor Naumann of New Brunswick.

Sally earned a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Wellesley College in 1953 and went on to complete a Master of Science in Physics from Northeastern University in 1971.

From 1953 to 1968, Sally worked at the Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratory, initially in the Cloud Physics Lab and later in the Microwave Physics Laboratory. She spent much of this time working on aspects of antenna design and authored technical reports for publication. In the latter part of her career, from 1986 into the 1990s, she worked at Lincoln Laboratory in Bedford, where she focused on Fortran programming and supporting software libraries for research teams.

In 1960, Sally married Arthur Turner with whom she shared a full life. Together, they raised two sons in Carlisle.

Sally pursued many interests outside of her career and raised two boys. She was an active member of the Boston Area Guild of Puppetry, where she delighted in the art of making puppets, writing stories, and bringing them to life through her Mouse Town Puppet Theater. Sally loved sailing which was a pastime that began in her youth when she raced in both the Snipe and 110 classes on Long Island Sound. She continued to follow her sailing passion with Arthur, racing their 210 in Marblehead, and later enjoyed cruising and annual sailing vacations with her family in Marblehead and around Cape Cod and the islands.

Sally’s talents extended to the kitchen, where her scientific mind and creative flair combined to produce all manner of delicious items including a few award-winning pies over the years at the Old Home Day pie contest. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, tennis, and swimming, activities that kept her vibrant and engaged throughout her life.

Sally is survived by her two sons, Bruce Turner and his wife, Georgina, of Richardson, Texas and Andrew Turner and his wife, Nicole, of Sammamish, Washington, and a community of friends and family who will miss her dearly. She is pre-deceased by her husband Arthur.

A graveside service for Sally and her husband Arthur will be held at the Green Cemetery in Carlisle on September 27 at 11 a.m.
