Sally Rose Persigan, age 76 of Oxford passed away Tuesday Dec. 2, 2025 at UW Hospital in Madison. Sally was born in Chicago, IL on January 27, 1949 to Peter and Ruth (Kelleher) Grifo. She grew up in the Simi Valley, CA area before moving to Illinois where she met her partner Ed Tremaine and his son, Jim. They were blessed with two daughters.
Sally and Ed relocated to Oxford where you could find her working at many area bars and restaurants. She also was a horse wrangler at the OK Corral in Wisconsin Dells. She was a free spirit who loved picking rocks, hunting mushrooms and shopping at thrift stores. She loved her “stuff” that she collected over the years. Sally made friends wherever she went and was one of the most giving people. She was an amazing artist who loved painting whether it was a deer scene on a circular saw, a Christmas scene on a plate to give to her family and friends or the back fence of the Oxford Harvest Market.
Sally is survived by her children: Jim Tremaine-Smith of Schaumburg, IL, Michelle (Rob) Long of Rock Falls, IL, Rosealee (Jesse) Jahns of Dubuque, IA, “adopted” daughter, Pamela Young of Oxford as well as grandchildren: Matt and Miranda Long and Meghan (Casey) Schmidt. She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Henley, Sadie, Ivy, Asher and Juniper Schmidt as well as sisters: Paula (Larry) Gustafson of FL and Lynda (Clay) Courchaine of Oxford, brothers: Jerry (Doug Matthews) of Flint, MI and John (Colleen) Marlewski of Oxford, sister-in-law Beth Marlewski of Rockford, IL., and many nieces, nephews and friends considered as Sally’s family.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents, partner, Ed Tremaine, step-father, Lee Marlewski and brother, Mike Marlewski.
A Celebration of Sally’s Life will be held at the Oxford VFW on Saturday December 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM unitl 2:00 PM.
