Sally Ann Zigler

 

Sally Ann Zigler passed away peacefully at her home in Henderson Nevada on December 14, 2023, surrounded by her family at the age of 84 years old. Sally was born in Pendleton Oregon on November 25, 1939. She is the daughter of Helen and Roscoe Lee, and the oldest of six children (Sally, Dan, Jim, Mike, Debbie, and Bruce). She was married to Kenneth Elder on August 30, 1956, in Pendleton Oregon. She helped her husband, Ken, go through college, first at Portland, State University, and then Oregon state university. During this time she graduated from High school in Portland, Oregon, in 1957. She spectacularly raised six boys (Kenny, Craig, Kevin, Paul, Chris, and Mitch). She raised her boys in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and taught us by example to have faith and believe in the atonement. She always believed in her boys and was their greatest fan and supporter.

 

Sally earned an Associates Degree at College of the Canyons in Valencia California and received a degree in journalism in 1977 while raising six boys. She completed her Bachelors of Science Degree in 1985 at Eastern Oregon University in General Sciences while working full time and raising a family. She was working on a Masters Degree in Water Resource Management at the University of Las Vegas (UNLV) when she was disabled from a spinal injury while traveling for her job on the Yucca Mountain Project.

She was active and held many callings in the Church's of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She Worked as a technical editor for United Nuclear and served as a press, secretary for Susan Roylance during her campaign for Congress in 1979.

 

She helped start a children's camp for kids with cancer called ,"Camp Betchacan" in Coeur d Alene, Idaho, in 1982, and served on the Board of Directors for three years. She was a member of the National Management Association. She set up the first "Management Meet the Press" seminar for the nation's management and technical personnel in Washington state. In 1993-94, Mrs. Zigler was elected to the American Nuclear Society's (ANS) Executive Bard of Directors for Human Factor Section.

 

She moved to California in 1985, where she worked as a technical editor for McDonald Douglas, and worked on proposals for the international space station. She also worked for Engineering Science in Pasadena, California, editing research reports on bio-monitoring of national waterways for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

 

Sally took care of her son, Christopher Elder, and advocated for him in his fight with cancer until he passed away in 1989. Sally moved to Las Vegas, where she worked as a technical editor for Yucca Mountain Project and traveled around the United States as a Department of Energy contractor, exhibiting Yucca Mountain Project, technical information displays.

 

She was remarried to Howard Zigler, the love of her life, on September 30, 1992. Howard joined the LDS Church and they were sealed in the Las Vegas Temple for time and eternity.

 

She was an avid ballroom dancer and an accomplished poet. Creative writing, especially poetry, has always been her first love in the writing arena. She published a book, called, "The Grassroots Woman From Las Vegas and Other Poems" in 2007 after winning the International Poets Society poetry contest. Sally believe that, "A better world, begins with me". Her life's work was a testament to this belief. Sally was a true disciple of our Savior Jesus Christ and strongly believed in the power of prayer.

 

A visitation for Sally will be at 8AM, Friday, January 5, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Whitney Ranch Ward, 1525 Guilford Dr, Henderson, NV 89014 with funeral services following at 9AM. Interment will be at Davis Memorial Park.
